Adjustable Beds vs. Flat Beds

Back to Articles | Next Article »

Comparing an adjustable bed with a flat bed is much like comparing apples with oranges. There’s just no fair comparison.

Flat beds are exactly that - flat! Adjustable beds can do that too. After that, the competition becomes, well, less than competitive.

Adjustable beds are used in most hospitals due to their therapeutic qualities. Why wouldn’t they provide the same healing benefits at home?

Flat beds generally are not going to provide the same type of support available with an adjustable bed which is going to lead to aches, pains and potentially other health concerns like insomnia, acid reflux and breathing distress. With a high quality memory foam mattress, a flat bed can be comfortable for a time. But once flipping the mattress no longer helps, the mattress can become an adversary quickly. Flat beds are only as good as their mattress because they provide nothing more dynamic for the consumer beyond that.

Adjustable beds come in many makes and models that offer many options designed to provide the consumer a fitful sleep no matter what health issues may be present. By adjusting the incline at the head and foot of bed, the user can customize their comfort zone to relieve pressure points and improve circulation. When suffering a headache, incline the head of the bed until the discomfort subsides. For those with circulation problems, raise the foot of the bed slightly to keep blood moving back toward the heart. Some beds have additional features like heat and massaging action that can provide relief for even more health issues.

As the bed is adjusted it tends to create a contouring effect on the body. Weight is distributed evenly so that pressure is relieved and breathing comes easier. Aches, pains and soreness melt away and all-night tossing and turning is a thing of the past.

Can a flat bed do any of that?
