When the time comes to buy a new mattress, more and more people are considering and buying a memory foam mattress. But first the question must be posed, βIs a Memory Foam mattress right for me?β
The answer is largely one of personal preference and differences exist between products in each category. There are even some inner spring mattresses that have Memory Foam pillow tops.
Memory Foam loyalists insist the comfort level they experience far exceeds that of conventional mattresses and the ability of Memory Foam to minimize disturbances on the bed surface is much heralded.
The unique ability of Memory Foam to create a contour-like effect and provide unparalleled support that is distributed evenly through the body unrivaled in conventional mattresses.
There are things about a Memory Foam mattress that take getting used to and may be unsuitable for some people. For one, Memory Foam is frequently characterized as being warmer than inner spring mattresses. This is due to the extremely form-fitting quality of Memory Foam that has earned its reputation for support and comfort and some may find it uncomfortable. Those who are restless or active sleepers may also have difficulty changing sleep positions with a Memory Foam mattress due to the way it contours to the body.
Memory Foam is comprised of polyurethane β a petroleum by-product. Some people with sensitivities to chemicals may find the slight odor present when the mattress is new too pungent.
High quality Memory Foam is generally very durable particularly if compared to many inner spring mattresses and does a better job of resisting bacteria, mold and pests such as dust mites and bed bugs. Memory Foam is still a relatively new product, but these mattresses are generally considered equal in longevity to comparatively priced conventional mattresses.
