You should choose a mattress based on how you sleep, instead of changing your sleep style to fit a bed. Understanding the firmness that’s right for you can guide you to the most comfortable mattress.

Side sleepers tend to choose our soft (AS5) or medium-soft (AS4) memory foam mattress.
Our medium (AS3) option is suitable for side, back, and combination sleepers.
Our medium-firm (AS2) or firm (AS1) beds are best reserved for back sleepers. Stomach sleepers may also feel comfortable on our AS1 and AS2 mattress, but experts don’t recommend sleeping this way.

Does memory foam flatten over time?

Typically, memory foam goes flat after years of everyday use. However, high-quality memory foam will quickly snap back into shape and retain its structure longer than low-quality memory foam.

We do not recommend using a box spring with any of our mattresses. The springs inside a box spring are too far apart to support every part of the mattress, and the unsupported parts may sag and compromise the bed’s overall support.

Yes, the original idea behind a box spring was to make a traditional innerspring mattress feel more comfortable. The box spring’s coils lined up with the coils inside the innerspring mattress, creating a softer feel. The coils would also add give, allowing the bed to better withstand a sleeper’s body weight.

However, a modern foam mattress doesn’t need a box spring to provide the height of comfort. You may even damage your foam mattress if you keep it on a box spring because it’s not a supportive enough base. The coils are spaced out to align with an innerspring mattress and aren’t packed close enough to prevent a foam mattress from sagging.
