It’s not impossible for our mattresses to sag. However, we take every precaution that we can to construct a sag-resistant mattress. We use durable foams that snap back into shape quickly and retain their responsiveness for years. Our steel coils are arranged for uncompromising support and have a sturdy foam base to ensure they stand straight after years of nightly use.
The most likely reason for one of our mattresses to sag is an unsupportive base. If you’re using a slatted foundation, such as a traditional panel bed or a newer platform bed, make sure the slats are no more than 3 inches apart. When the slats are too far apart, the mattress can sink between them and lose its shape, causing damage to the support materials.

In fact, you may even damage your Amerisleep mattress if you place it directly on a box spring. The coils inside a box spring are far apart, leaving spaces where the mattress can sag.
If you have a box spring you want to use for more bed height, you can slip a piece of moisture-resistant plywood in between the mattress and box spring. A plywood board cut to size establishes a supportive, even surface, while the moisture-resistant coating prevents mold and mildew from growing.
Technically, yes, you can place any of our mattresses on the floor and sleep comfortably. However, while the floor provides a supportive surface, it’s not without drawbacks. A mattress on the floor is an easy target for dirt, dust, bugs, and other unpleasant things. Meanwhile, a bed frame elevates the mattress and keeps it away from the things that settle on the ground.
We only recommend the floor as a temporary measure while you shop around for a bed frame. While you keep your mattress on the floor, cover it with a protector to limit its exposure to pests, dirt, and dust.
Latex and memory foam mattresses are often compared because they feature similar conforming feels. The biggest difference between the two materials is production. Memory foam is produced with synthetic chemicals to create a viscoelastic material. Natural latex is made with rubber tree foam that’s whipped into a foam.
