Yes, any Amerisleep mattress requires only a few minutes to expand enough for you to lie down. We usually recommend giving our mattresses 8 hours to reach their full shape, but you will not damage the bed if you lie down on it sooner.

No, our memory foam and hybrid mattresses are not designed to be used with a box spring. A box spring is designed to support a traditional innerspring mattress. The coils inside a box spring are not grouped close enough to create the consistently even and supportive surface our mattresses need.

Instead of a box spring, we recommend a mattress foundation for support. A wooden foundation can replace a box spring inside a traditional panel bed, raising the bed’s profile. Usually, you can also use the foundation on its own, attaching legs to create a simple platform bed or place the foundation on the floor. Just make sure the foundation’s slats are no more than 3 inches apart.

Traditional memory foam has one big drawback, rooted in its dense design. The material absorbs body heat faster than it can release it. Many manufacturers solve this problem by mixing in cooling materials to disperse heat across the mattress’s surface.
