It’s important to keep in mind your sleep position as you shop. A too-firm mattress can leave a side sleeper sore, while a too-soft mattress can cause back pain in a back or stomach sleeper.

We usually recommend the following:

• An AS1 mattress for a stomach sleeper.
• An AS1 or AS2 mattress for a back sleeper. The AS2 is available as a memory foam or hybrid mattress.
• An AS3, AS4, or AS5 mattress for a side sleeper. You can choose a memory foam or hybrid version of the AS3 and AS5 mattresses.
• An AS3 memory foam or hybrid mattress for a combination sleeper.

While other considerations, such as price, can influence your decision, your sleeping position is one of the most important factors when choosing a comfortable mattress.

Yes, our mattress store offers more than just mattresses. We carry three different pillows in queen and king sizes:

• Our original Classic Comfort Pillow is a solid memory foam pillow aerated for a cool feeling.
• The Dual Comfort Pillow, our 2-in-1 model. One side feels firm, perfect for side sleepers. The other feels soft and is suited for back sleepers. Available in low or mid-lofts.
• The Flex Pillow, filled with shredded memory foam you can fluff up or flatten down.

We also sell cotton sheets, Tencel sheets, waterproof mattress protectors, and comforters. Buy lightweight bedding for the summer and heavier bedding for the winter.

Yes, you may be able to pair your current bed frame with one of our mattresses. Our mattresses require a solid surface or slats no more than 3 inches apart.

Do you have a panel bed with slats too far apart? You could try our mattress foundation, designed to be used with a bed frame or as a standalone base. A piece of moisture-resistant plywood, at least 0.75 inches thick, may also work on top of slats.

A foundation is any structure that raises and supports your mattress, though the term is usually reserved for wooden frames with slats. Box springs also have a wooden frame, though inside are springs instead of slats.

Foundations create a firmer, more even surface than a box spring, which is why a foundation is a better choice for a memory foam or hybrid mattress. Just make sure the foundation’s slats are no more than 3 inches apart.

If you place a memory foam or hybrid mattress on a box spring, your bed is more likely to sag prematurely and may void your warranty.

We do not recommend sleeping on a mattress without sheets and a protector. Aside from increasing the bed’s comfort, these items also keep your mattress clean and extend its lifespan. Without a protector and sheets, allergens are more likely to penetrate your mattress, disturbing your rest and leaving you feeling unwell in the morning.

A memory foam mattress’s “new bed” smell is caused by off-gassing. This process happens when the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) inside a mattress break down after being opened.

The mattresses we offer at our Shenandoah mattress store contain low amounts of VOCs for minimal off-gassing, but you may still notice a slight smell in the first few days.

We recommend unboxing your new mattress within a couple weeks of receiving it. We can’t guarantee a mattress's quality that’s been left inside a box for an extended period. Our compression is meant for short-term transportation, not long-term storage.
