Mattress size is an important consideration when choosing a new bed. If you buy something too small, you won’t have enough room to get comfortable. But if you buy something too big, it may make your bedroom feel cramped.

To make the shopping process easier, we break down each mattress size and who they’re recommended for below.

Twin Size Mattress

Dimensions: 38 inches wide and 74 inches long
A twin size mattress is a small mattress suited for children’s rooms, bunk beds, and tiny or unusually-shaped bedrooms. A twin mattress can help you make the most of a limited space and restricted budget.

Twin XL Size Mattress

Dimensions 38 inches by 80 inches
A twin XL size mattress is a good choice if you want a small bed to satisfy tall sleepers. Many parents choose a twin XL size mattress to better accommodate a child through their teen and young adult years than a regular twin bed. A guest room with a twin XL mattress can do an excellent job of providing visitors with a comfortable night’s rest.

Full Size Mattress

Dimensions: 54 inches by 75 inches
A full size mattress is perfect for single sleepers who feel cramped on twin beds. The size is 16 inches wider than a traditional twin mattress, giving a person room to move and sprawl in their sleep. However, we do not recommend full size beds for couples because two people will barely have room to turn.

Queen Size Mattress

A queen size mattress is a bed almost anyone can sleep on, whether they’re living alone or sharing with a partner. Solo sleepers can enjoy all the personal space that a queen size mattress features, while couples have room enough to sleep and move comfortably. Queen beds are also compact enough to fit in most bedrooms.

King Size Mattress

Dimensions: 76 inches by 80 inches
A king size mattress is the biggest standard size bed available. People who want a large mattress to share or to sprawl on alone may find a king mattress the pinnacle of comfort. However, their bedroom should be large enough to accommodate a king bed and other furnishings. When the bedroom is too small, a king mattress can make its space feel claustrophobic.

California King Size Mattress

Dimensions: 72 inches by 84 inches
A California king size mattress is comfortable for most sleepers and well-suited for people more than 6 feet tall who may feel cramped on a standard king bed. A Cal king bed’s extra 4 inches of length give those people needed legroom and headroom.

Split King Size Mattress

Dimensions: 38 inches by 80 inches
Often, the secret to a comfortable night’s rest for couples is a split king size mattress. Split kings are divided into two beds, and partners can personalize each half to their firmness preferences. A side sleeper can have a soft half, while their stomach sleeper partner can have a firm half. Each half of a split king mattress can also be raised and lowered independently on an adjustable bed.

Is a mattress foundation from the Amerisleep Stafford mattress store the same as a box spring?

No, while both have a wooden box-like structure, a mattress foundation is quite different from a box spring. A foundation consists of a wooden frame with slats across the top. These slats are often upholstered with non-slip fabric, like our foundation, to keep a mattress in place.

A box spring is filled with coils arranged to match up with the coils inside a traditional innerspring mattress. A fabric covering encases the box spring for protection.

We never recommend using a box spring with our mattresses because the design can’t provide adequate support. The coils are spaced too far apart and leave gaps where parts of the mattress can sink, stretching the bed out of shape.

What are the benefits of a hybrid mattress from the Amerisleep Stafford mattress store?

Our hybrid mattresses are uniquely eco-friendly. We make our Bio-Pur® top layers with plant-based chemicals for a more breathable and sustainable material. Plus, every foam we use is certified safe and non-toxic by CertiPUR-US®.

Hybrid mattresses have a naturally cooling design. Our breathable foams, airy coil support, and ventilated mattress cover ensure heat doesn’t build up inside any of our hybrid mattresses.

Hybrids are also naturally responsive to movement thanks to their pocketed coils. Our hybrids have three support zones, with a firm feel under the torso and a softer feel in the mattress’s head and foot. Firm foam surrounds the coils, creating edge support that makes it easier for a person to move in and out of bed.

Do hybrid mattresses from the Amerisleep Stafford mattress store squeak?

It’s unlikely one of our hybrid mattresses will squeak because of its featured foams and coils. Our Bio-Pur® memory foam absorbs motion and is completely soundless, and every one of the coils inside the mattress is wrapped—not only to limit motion transfer, but also to muffle any sounds.

Is memory foam good for a mattress?

Yes, memory foam is an excellent mattress material because it conforms to the body and can be produced in a wide array of feels. You can have a firm memory foam mattress for stomach sleepers and back sleepers, like our AS1 or AS2 mattresses. Then you can have a medium feel mattress for combination and side sleepers, like our ever-popular AS3 mattress. Finally, side sleepers interested in a high amount of pressure-relieving cushion might want to try our AS4 or AS5 mattresses.

Should a mattress protector be waterproof?

Yes, a waterproof mattress protector will protect your bed from spills and accidents. This protection allows you to file any warranty claims with greater ease; warranties are void if the mattress becomes damaged or stained. Waterproof protectors are also tightly woven enough to keep out allergens and pests.
